Mr. Brian Baron
I am honored to be serving our students, staff, MES families and community as the principal of Morningside Elementary. I joined the Morningside Elementary admin team in 2018 as School Business Manager and most recently served as Assistant Principal and Interim Principal. Prior to joining the MES Community of teaching and learning, I served APS as a district testing and assessment administrator. I also previously served in Gwinnett County Public Schools as a high school teacher and high school and elementary assistant principal.
I truly believe in the power of public education where every child has an opportunity to enjoy success, where we have the unique opportunity to set our future leaders on the path of choice filled options and lifelong learning.
I received my BA in Sociology and Linguistics from Emory University and my M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia, as well as a certificate in School Leadership and Management from Harvard University. My passions other than education include baking, tinkering with technology, putting things together without directions, playing pickleball (maybe a little bit competitively), and a general love of laughter. I am happily married and have been a resident of Atlanta for 30 years.
As MES Principal, I pledge to provide the highest level of loving support and service to all members of the Morningside Elementary community of learners!

- MAP (K-5) and AMIRA (K-3) reports will be sent home in Wednesday folders in sealed envelopes.
Speaking of MAP…
Our Dolphins brought the heat for the Winter MAP assessment and I couldn't be prouder!!!
MATH and READING MAP: Fall to Winter MAP shows positive movement in proficiency across all grade levels. In BOTH Math and Reading!! In fact, when looking at the performance of grades 2-5 overall, MES is #1 in the district for these 4 grade levels!!! This is a HUGE accomplishment and is a testament to the incredible staff that pours into our Dolphins daily, and of course to the incredible "show what you know" mindset of our Dolphins. GO MES! #AllDolphinsIn!
- We are noticing an uptick again of students being dropped off on East Rock Springs Road in the mornings. As always, please use the car line only for dropping Dolphins off in the mornings!!!
- Upcoming Principal Caffeine Connection - Wednesday 1/21/26. We will look at some MAP data and
- Lastly, if you are a Netflix series fan (or not), a staff member alerted me this weekend to a super fun clip in Episode 2 of the new series His&Hers which is set in Atlanta and Dahlonega. I won't give it away here, but if you want a sneak peak, slide into Episode 2 at around 27 minutes and watch. (I highly recommend watching from the beginning of the series though - you'll be hooked!). NOTE: This is an adult show - there are adult themes and language throughout.
Until Next Time...
Warmly,
Brian Baron
Assistant Principal

Dr. Nakiesha Sinclair
Greetings!!! I am Dr. Sinclair, and this is my 5th year at Morningside Elementary. I graduated with a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from Mercer University in 2016. I am the mother of two and a proud Army Mom. My greatest accomplishment to date is raising two awesome young men. My purpose is to develop the types of teachers that I wanted my children to have. I believe that every day is a new day and a chance to fix (and erase) the mistakes made yesterday. I am a person who leads by example, and I do not expect anything from people that they cannot expect from me. I have an open-door policy and I believe that respect goes both ways.

I love working with children and working for Morningside. I grew up in East Tennessee but have lived in several different cities and states. I studied art at the University of Tennessee. My favorite things to do are paint, illustrate and sculpt. I'm mediocre on the guitar, piano and singing but enjoy all of them. I have two children who remind me of the cartoon siblings on Dexter's laboratory. One is sunshine and rainbows, dancing through life, while the other has a serious, scientific mind. Today, they are 6 & 10. Tomorrow, they might be 14 & 18, as it turns out, they grow up fast. Contrary to popular student belief, I do NOT live at Morningside Elementary. When I'm not at school, I'm frolicking somewhere over the rainbow.

I feel so fortunate having a career that I love so much. It is such hard, important work. But it is also the most rewarding work! And now as a STEAM teacher, I get to inspire our students through all of my favorite things: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math! Ask your children about what they are learning in STEAM each week!!
Ms. Betsy Stuart
GATE
Mr. Richard Hatcher
I took a decidedly different career path to arrive at my current position as a teacher of gifted and talented students, a STEAM curriculum specialist, and design/thinking specialist. I left Rhodes College after three years, determined to leave college behind. Along the way I traveled the world learning the skills to build homes, organically farm and to write about my experiences. For years, I was successful as a skilled carpenter, designing and building homes and other structures and volunteering to build homes for those in need through Habitat for Humanity. Education found me when I started reading books in my son’s preschool classroom. I was hooked. I received teaching credentials from GA State University and a masters in Geo-Science from Mississippi State University. Additionally, I’ve received robotics credentials from Carnegie/Mellon University and design thinking credentials from GA Tech University. Many years later, having lived and worked in Europe and N. America, I can’t imagine doing anything else. At 29 years in education, this is still the work that gives me hope and inspiration. It’s a place of incredible energy and wonder. I believe that by working together we can develop critical thinking skills, empathy, and habits of mind that will allow our young people to find ways to overcome the problems we face in the world.
Ms. Kristen Duncan
Hello! I’m Kristen Duncan, one of the GATE teachers at Morningside. This is my 21st year at MES and my 29th year in education. Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, fostering dogs, staying active, and spending time with my family.
